Pete Engelhart designed the Satellite Drums to be hit with mallet or stick. When the metal bar is hit with a soft mallet the sound produced is similar to a steel drum. A stick produces a loud resonant, metallic effect. The drums are pitched at intervals and very compelling for sound effects and rhythmic patterns. Sizes are approximately 5" and 7". K Constantinople cymbals speak with the dark warm sound associated with Zildjian cymbals made in Turkey in the first half of the 20th Century. "Old Ks" first resurfaced during the 1950s and 1960s in set-ups of bebop era vanguard drummers like Elvin Jones. K Constantinoples are hand-lathed by skilled artisans using old-style cutting tools. Pits and other surface impurities, that modern finishing processes remove, are retained, preserving the original tonal quality.
The 22" Zildjian K Constantinople Over-Hammered Thin Ride has not only been subjected to Zildjian's traditional K Con hammering for a good wash and spread, but also to a random over-hammering. Over-hammered cymbals receive additional hammer strikes after they are lathed. The 22" Zildjian K Constantinople Bounce Ride was designed in conjunction with legendary jazz drummer Kenny Washington, who is known for his vintage K cymbal sound. This medium-thin ride cymbal has excellent stick bounce. It has more pronounced tonal grooves than other models, which produces a controlled sustain and decay.
