Soft, delicate, and subtle without being mushy. Unique, ultra warm, and dark sound, ideal for acoustic jazz and studio work. Though the "chick" sound is very dry and warm, it is full-bodied with plenty of presence. Developed in conjunction with the maestro, Elvin Jones.
Crafted with a blend of traditional and modern hammering techniques to enrich and darken the vintage sound.
Plenty of give, texture, and "crashability." Combination of top articulation and bottom spread provides excellent stick articulation. Higher in pitch.
K Constantinople cymbals speak with the dark warm sound associated with Zildjian cymbals made in Turkey in the first half of the 20th Century. "Old Ks" first resurfaced during the 1950s and 1960s in set-ups of bebop era vanguard drummers like Elvin Jones. K Constantinoples are hand-lathed by skilled artisans using old-style cutting tools. Pits and other surface impurities, that modern finishing processes remove, are retained, preserving the original tonal quality.
The 22" Zildjian K Constantinople Over-Hammered Thin Ride has not only been subjected to Zildjian's traditional K Con hammering for a good wash and spread, but also to a random over-hammering. Over-hammered cymbals receive additional hammer strikes after they are lathed. This is visually apparent and aids in giving these cymbals a slightly drier sound and controllability as well as excellent stick definition. This ride has a dark overall sound with rich overtones. The 22" Zildjian K Constantinople Bounce Ride was designed in conjunction with legendary jazz drummer Kenny Washington, who is known for his vintage K cymbal sound. This medium-thin ride cymbal has excellent stick bounce. It has more pronounced tonal grooves than other models, which produces a controlled sustain and decay. Zildjian utilized traditional K Constantinople hammering techniques and augmented the design of this cymbal with eight groups of clustered hammering, giving each ride its own unique sonic characteristics.
